Nordic style shelving

Visual lightness: slender, light-colored wood structures; airy shelves; often ladder-like uprights or open frames that reveal the wall behind. Scandinavian design views shelving as a composition rather than a storage wall: less density, more open space, and light oak providing a warm touch.

This style calls for restraint: books grouped by category, not arranged in long rows; ceramic and glass objects with their own space; a touch of greenery; and deliberate empty spaces. Use a colorless natural oil during annual maintenance to preserve the light color, and dust the open shelves as often as needed. Minimize exposure to light by rotating objects: light-colored wood shows the differences in tone between covered and uncovered areas more clearly.
