Wooden tall cabinets

Make the most of the vertical space that almost all bedrooms waste: standing 200 to 220 cm tall, it gives you a full loft for suitcases, comforters, and out-of-season clothing without taking up a single centimeter of floor space. Arranged by frequency of use, from bottom to top: shoes and boxes at the bottom, everyday items hung at eye level, shelves for weekly use above, and the loft for seasonal items. A rule of thumb: items you use every day should be between knee and shoulder height; the rest can go higher. We’ll expand on these guidelines for organizing your closet.

Solid oak is quite heavy, which helps keep it stable, but the universal recommendation for furniture taller than a meter and a half is to anchor it to the wall with brackets—a must if there are children in the home. Make sure to level the legs properly when assembling it: with tall cabinets, even a slight unevenness at the bottom can cause the doors to be misaligned at the top.

Wipe down the exterior with a damp, wrung-out cloth and apply natural oil once a year; there’s a step to reach the top, where dust accumulates out of sight. Ventilate the interior by opening the doors periodically. Check the hinges once a year: the upper doors tend to act as a lever and benefit from having their screws tightened.
