Main advantages of solid oak furniture
Oak is durable, heavy and light in color. It is one of the best woods for making furniture. If the oak wood is joined correctly, so that the stress is distributed along the grain, a solid oak chair can last a century or more of daily use. A table, cabinet or chest of drawers could last even longer, because they are not subject to the racking forces that a chair must withstand as its occupant shifts his or her weight on it. Oak has a very pronounced and rather coarse grain pattern, which varies greatly depending on how it is cut in relation to the growth rings.
Furniture made from oak is considerably more durable than furniture made from other hardwoods, such as pine, teak, mango etc.. If you have an active family and furniture gets a lot of wear and tear in your home, oak furniture is a good choice, partly because it is not easily damaged.

In general, the advantages of oak are:

  • Oak is a very strong and durable wood with a beautiful and distinctive grain pattern.
  • It is highly resistant to scratches, stains and dust and does not need regular cleaning and polishing like many other woods.
  • Less deformation than other types of wood
  • Easily accepts a wide variety of finishes
  • Highly resistant to insects and fungi
  • Less likely to warp when exposed to sunlight
  • Good water resistance properties (especially white oak)
  • Highly wear resistant.
