Solid wood chairs

Because chairs are the pieces of furniture that take the most abuse in the home: they’re dragged across the floor, leaned on, and loaded down with weight. Solid wood withstands this kind of treatment for decades and can be repaired when necessary—something that’s impossible with chairs made of particleboard or plastic. What’s more, every oak chair has its own grain pattern: they’re unique pieces, not clones. We work exclusively with FSC-certified solid oak manufactured in Europe.

A well-designed wooden chair is comfortable by virtue of its geometry: a seat with a slight anatomical recess, a backrest with the correct angle, and rounded edges. For very long work surfaces, you can always add a cushion, which can be washed and replaced. The advantage is that the bare chair can be wiped clean with a cloth and doesn’t accumulate dust mites or stains. Clean with a well-wrung damp cloth; apply natural oil once a year and place felt pads under the legs. Tighten the screws every six months if you notice any looseness. If there’s a scratch, sand it lightly in the direction of the grain and apply a drop of oil: the fact that it can be repaired is the biggest advantage of solid wood over any alternative.
