Hall mirror

Three benefits in one: a final check before leaving, amplifying light in the darkest area of many homes, and visually expanding a space that’s almost always narrow. A well-placed mirror transforms a narrow hallway into a striking entryway—with just one piece and no construction work required.

The center of the mirror should be at the average eye level in the house, between 155 and 165 cm from the floor. If it’s placed on a console table or piece of furniture, leave 15 to 25 cm between the surface and the frame. To see your full body, you need a mirror at least 100 to 120 cm tall hung at the correct height—not a giant mirror. In narrow entryways, a vertical mirror makes the space appear taller; on long walls, a horizontal mirror above a piece of furniture creates a sense of depth; round and oval mirrors soften entryways with many straight lines from doors and door frames. A wooden frame adds warmth where it’s often lacking: the entryway looks great with oak.

On a console table, it’s the classic combination: a surface for keys and letters below, and a mirror and light above. Wooden console tables with a narrow depth leave the space unobstructed and complement the entryway’s design, with the mirror centered above them.

With the shoe issue resolved—which is what really creates clutter in entryways—a low shoe cabinet under the mirror or off to the side completes the morning routine of leaving the house—keys, a final check, and shoes—all within one square meter.
