Choose a coffee table It's something you instinctively think you know how to do ... until it's time to find one. That is why we have made this post, so you do not have to guess what size, shape or type you need to make the perfect combination with the sofa.
The coffee table, so functional, so often an afterthought. The sofas take all the glory of the living room, and it is true that they make us feel comfortable, but the coffee table is also a fundamental piece of the living room. In it are the drinks, the remote controls, the most beloved technological devices, the most precious trinkets and, for better or worse, the dinners to go at the end of a long day. Desktop or tabletop crafts. With such a large and diverse job, you might assume it would be one of the first pieces of furniture to think of when moving to a new place and / or redecorating ... except that it usually isn't.
How many hours do we spend choosing the perfect sofa, the perfect rug, the perfect chairs for our living room ... just to buy a second-hand coffee table? We are sure that many of you have already discussed choosing a table, but regardless of which side you find yourself on, you may need a little guidance or inspiration when buying a coffee table. We have prepared a buying guide with the best coffee tables that we have made of solid oak, in a natural and bleached color - square, rectangular and nest - and a few rules to keep in mind when choosing a coffee table.
First thing: the rules. Although, of course, you can choose the shape and size you want, so that the relationship between the coffee table and the sofa is ideal, here are some general things that you should keep in mind: The coffee table should have at less than half the length of the sofa (but not more than ⅔ of the length) and must be at the same height as the seat, plus or minus 10 cm (that is, if your sofa is 230 cm long and 50 high , you should look for something, regardless of shape, that is between 115 and 140 cm wide and between 20 and 50 cm high). However, if you have a sectional with chaise, and your table goes within the open L shape that creates the sofa shape, that 1/2 to 2/3 guideline best applies only to the horizontal seat length, in instead of the total length of the sofa. Here's a quick chart to show you what we mean:
Consider a rectangle if you have a standard sofa (or an extra-long sofa with a chaise) so that everyone can easily access their coffee, cocktail, or snack. It is also a good option if you have a narrow space with little room to walk. If you have more remote controls or tech cables in your home than you can count, think about getting one table with functional drawers.
Serves as a side table, bedside table, standing or lying down, the choice is yours.
If you have a large and comfortable sectional sofa or the traditional conversation setup with a couch and a couple of chairs, a square table it's a great choice. It fits perfectly in the L-shaped corner of your sectional or in the large space in the middle of your conversation area.
For those who live in a small space where every piece of furniture counts, think about opting for something round. It is also a good option to combine it with a sectional sofa or a sofa with chaise longue, since it has a good "corner" shape, that is, it fits perfectly in a small corner of the space. Another top tip if space is tight or your room is already occupied is to consider nesting tables.
